April 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Today is the last time I will come back to CCAD after a holiday because on the 11th May I finally hand in my final major project!  After weeks of preparation it all comes down to the degree show on the 4th June which is to be held at the Hartlepool Art Gallery in Church Square.  A deadline that is even closer is for professional practice which is on Thursday. Thankfully my photobook came last week phew! because that is part of the hand in package.  Today I am digitally printing some of my final pieces ready to embellish so its definitely all systems go.  There is definitely NOT LONG TO GO! xox

My lovely inspiration that I call my bay
My lovely inspiration that I call my bay

Over the past few weeks I have naturally progressed from my drawing onto my development and into the scary A2 sketchbook which has been sat in the boot of my lovely little car flo since we started the project (prepared or what!).  I have decided to work on both paper and fabric for my final fashion samples because some of my main inspirations such as Viktor & Rolf and Chanel have both used paper to create some of there outrageous catwalk creations.  I have also been busy dying fabrics ready to print on using discharge and pigments, as well as preparing printed papers using pigments to create layered ideas to give the feel of my drawings.  My drawings have a very sketchbook feel, which was carried through from my concept journal I want this to be reflected in both my final designs and my development.

All of my things

A bit of my passion

Welcome to Natalie Jane Textiles.  I am Natalie, a student currently studying at Cleveland College of Art and Design in my third year of BA (Hons) Textiles and Surface Design.  I am onto my final studio project (the big scary one) which is the last project I will do before I have to venture out into the big wide world of the textiles industry.  For my Final Major Project I wanted to do something that I was really inspired by, something that I loved.  When searching through endless Elle, Vogue and Harper Bazaar my eye was constantly drawn to the fashion spreads of bold and beautiful edititorial shoots and then it came to me why not add my passion for fashion to my project with the theme of ‘My Wardrobe’.  With designers such as Manish Aurora, Diane Von Furtenberg and Viktor and Rolf being a huge inspiration and starting block my colour palette was naturally steering toward bright bold colours rather than the soft pales which I am so used to working with.  After researching this project for several weeks and creating an inpiration journal which I am so proud of I am at the drawing statge of the project, creating bold A1 sheets, which for me is usually a size I stay away from.  This passion for fashion is certainly been alot more inpirational than I first thought with my mind constantly swimming with colours and ideas for what I will do next…
